Today we’ll wander the tree-lined streets and past crumbling colonial façades that will transport you back in time. We’ll drive to Ha Long Bay City through Vietnam’s Red River Delta, enjoying the scenery of tranquil villages embellished by peaceful green fields. We’ll cruise through the famous waters, having lunch onboard our traditional wooden ‘junk’ (boat) before exploring the famed Thien Cung (Heavenly Palace) Cave. This evening we’ll return to our hotel in Hanoi.

Today is yours to explore more of this incredible city, or relax in the hotel spa. You do you and enjoy your day, your way. Do a little shopping for some one-of-a-kind souvenirs, stroll the neighboring Old Quarter where wisps of incense drift out onto the streets from ancient temples, or mingle with the locals at Hoan Kiem Lake in the heart of Hanoi where you’ll find the shores alive with walkers, aerobics classes and yoga groups. Hanoi, Ha Long Bay & Ninh Binh

From dawn till dusk, Hanoi is abuzz with dynamic activity. The city is adorned with over 600 temples, pagodas, and other cultural relics. Hanoi’s Old Quarter is a bustling, vibrant neighborhood that is both the historic heart of the city and a hub of contemporary culture. With its narrow streets, traditional architecture, and lively markets, the Old Quarter, or “36 Streets” as it is sometimes called, dates back to the 13th century, when it was a center of commerce and craft production in the city. Today, it is a maze of narrow alleys, each one named for the trade or product that was historically sold there. Visitors to the Old Quarter can still see traditional shops and markets selling everything from silk and pottery to street food and souvenirs.

We’ll spend a full day touring Ha Long Bay, where towering limestone pillars and tiny islets, topped by impossible forests, rise from the emerald waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1994, Ha Long Bay’s scatter of islands, dotted with wind- and wave-eroded grottoes, is a vision of ethereal beauty and, unsurprisingly, northern Vietnam’s number one-tourism attraction.

Finally, we’ll visit hidden Hoa Lu, a secluded destination in the Ninh Binh province, renowned as an ancient capital featuring the royal palace grounds of the Le and Dinh dynasties. We’ll explore the 10th Century temples, then have a boat trip down the Ngo Dong River to explore the limestone caves of Tam Coc.
