Scheduled to start sailing in 2027, the brand new Ama Maya touts amenities designed to satisfy luxury travelers on the Mekong River and is rich with French-colonial character, while also boasting private balconies outside each of its cabins and a roomy Sun Deck swimming pool. Its sleek exterior is low and wide with large windows throughout. The outer decks sport rich, local hardwood while the interior flooring features lovely Vietnamese Cam Xe wood. You’ll find contemporary accents blend seamlessly with traditional colonial touches throughout the vessel. Standard beers, wines, mixed drinks, sodas and specialty coffees are all included anytime onboard.

Still known as Saigon and “The Pearl of the Far East”, Ho Chi Minh contains a splendid array of monuments and landmarks from the French colonial era. The city came to life during the French colonial era in the late 19th Century when builders constructed wide boulevards, old-style Parisian buildings and spectacular cathedrals such as Notre Dame. Their influence also goes well beyond architecture as the city boasts plenty of fine dining options, cafés and boutiques that capture a distinctly European essence.

This afternoon we’ll begin our cruise along the Mekong. A thriving trade route for thousands of years, the Mekong River remains one of the few big rivers in the world that refuses to be spoiled by modernization. The Greater Mekong region holds irreplaceable riches, ranging from rare wildlife to communities with distinct cultural heritages. The region contains some of the most biologically diverse habitats in the world, teeming with wildlife and lined with everything from small towns to capital cities.

Savor the view as we sail further up the Mekong. We’ll start our day in Cai Be where we’ll visit a local candy and rice paper making workshop. In Sa Dec, board a sampan to visit a traditional Vietnamese house. Immerse yourself in this historic town and interact with sellers in the lively market. Visit the home of Huynh Thuy Le, who inspired Marguerite Duras’ novel “L’Amant” (The Lover). Later we’ll take a tour of this peaceful city, passing tree-lined streets, fading colonial villas, and vibrant flower markets.

Stroll through the local markets and absorb the atmosphere as locals buy and sell fish and produce. Embark on a journey down the backwaters of the Mekong, seeing traditional floating homes, religious sites and a market selling dried goods that are integral to the local way of life. Tan Chau is known for its beautiful scenery, cultural diversity, and a thriving economy. You will be captivated by Sam Mountain and the Tinh Bien International Border Gate, which leads to our next stop... Cambodia.

The capital city of Phnom Penh is incredibly charismatic and sophisticated, with a growing reputation as a destination for luxury travelers. Historic buildings such as the art deco Central Market and the glittering Royal Palace stand alongside ever-rising skyscrapers. It is this contrast that makes Phnom Penh endlessly engaging. You’ll be intrigued by the colorful riverfront markets and the iconic French quarter. Beautiful pagodas and stupas (mound-like meditation spaces) stand out all over the city.

This morning we’ll visit Oudong, Cambodia’s former royal capital from the early 17th century until 1866. Today, Oudong is a place of pilgrimage for Cambodians. While here, we’ll be treated to a memorable Buddhist Blessing Ceremony at a monastery. In Kampong Tralach, we’ll visit a local village & witness artists creating hand-crafted treasures. Later, you’ll have a truly authentic excursion... a fascinating tour in a traditional wooden cart pulled by two oxen to the nearby village, like the locals do!

In the morning, we’ll set sail for Oknha Tey Village, a tranquil island village located on the Mekong River. Oknha Tey is the “Silk Island” of Cambodia, world-renowned for its rich tradition of hand-loomed silk weaving, rural stilted houses, and vibrant local artisan workshops. You’ll see firsthand the traditional ritual of silk weaving, an art that has been preserved in this area for centuries. After, we’ll visit a local elementary school and spend time with the children to get an idea of Cambodia’s comprehensive education system.

Explore this community village set along the shores of the Tonlé Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and the wellspring of Cambodian life. Tonlé Sap Lake is responsible for supplying fish and feeding the extensive rice fields in Cambodia’s vast low-lying plains. A visit to villages in the Mekong basin, with its people still immersed in age-old practices and crafts, is like stepping back in time. This afternoon, we’ll depart our ship and transfer to our luxury resort in Siem Reap.

Regarded as the largest religious monument in the world, Angkor Wat (translating to “City of Temples”) is the most significant relic from the ancient Khmer empire. Constructed in the early 12th century, Angkor Wat was forgotten and nearly reclaimed by nature centuries after the decline of the Khmer empire, only to be rediscovered in 1861. Originally built as a Hindu temple, the ruins of Angkor grew over the centuries to eventually stretch more than 248 square miles.

Angkor Thom was the last capital of the Angkor empire and is famous for its “face-towers” at its city gates and at the the central Bayon temple. They became emblematic of Angkor and the ancient Khmer culture. Angkor Thom is home to many great archaeological sites including the Royal Palace, Bayon Temple, the Elephant Terrace, Victory Square, and the Leper King terrace walls. As the largest of all the Angkor complexes, our visit to Angkor Thom is the perfect spot to end our incredible Mekong adventure together.

Welcome to Southeast Asia! Head to our hotel to check in, then choose to relax or head OUTbound into the city. Spend the rest of your first day at leisure, getting acquainted with Ho Chi Minh City at your own pace, admiring the historic French colonial architecture, or soaking up some of the city’s youthful energy. Order an iced coffee from a sidewalk vendor or small café... an integral part of the economy and culture. The legendary 'ca phe sua da' (iced coffee with milk) is thick, sweet, and super strong!
Ho Chi Minh City, known by the locals by previous name, Saigon, is the largest city in Vietnam. After breakfast, we’ll begin our tour with a visit to the Reunification Palace, the former workplace of the president of the Republic of Vietnam, which now serves as a museum. Next we’ll visit Notre Dame Cathedral and nearby Saigon Central Post, two of the city’s most famous landmarks. We’ll end our tour with a visit to Cholon (Chinatown), a bustling neighborhood full of teahouses, pagodas and the famous Binh Tay Market.

Today we’ll check out of our hotel & board our ship to start our Mekong cruise. We’ll spend the afternoon sailing, where you’ll discover daily life in Vietnam along the Mekong. In My Tho, we’ll tour Thoi Son Island using traditional, local boats called sampans. We’ll enjoy some honey tea and exotic fruit before continuing our leisurely sampan tour along the canal lined with mangrove palms before retuning to our ship for dinner where we will enjoy a traditional Vietnamese music show performed by local artists.
This morning we’ll visit Cai Be, sailing through the canals and orchards of Bin Hoa Phuoc in small local boats. We’ll see a sugar factory where we’ll learn how to make puffed rice and the rice wraps that are used to make famous spring rolls. Then we’ll visit the Bac Duc Ancient House. After lunch onboard, we’ll take a tour of Sa Dec, known in colonial times as ‘the garden of Cochinchina’ because of its famous floral gardens. We’ll visit the local market before returning to our ship.

Today we’re in Tan Chau, a small Mekong River town where you’ll be treated to an authentic experience on a traditional “xe-loi” (trishaw) ride around the town, with stops at a silk-making and a rattan mat workshop. Marvel at the lush greenery encompassing majestic cajuput trees, lotuses, water lilies and a carpet of bright green moss that seems to glow as you drift through it. Glide by sampan through this diverse ecosystem that includes more than 70 species of birds, including the painted stork and oriental darter.

Today we’ll tour Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital city. We’ll see the fabulous Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, inlaid with more than 5,000 silver tiles. Next is a visit to the National Museum of Cambodia. We’ll have lunch in the city and free time on your own afterwards. Explore the historic riverfront area with its restaurants, art galleries and silk shops, or visit the vast Central Market to shop for jewelry, curios, or locally made garments. You will be amazed by this mega-metropolis hidden in the mist of a jungle!

The village of Oudong sits in the delta of the Mekong near Tonlé Sap Lake. Join us as we explore this small village where crafts people and local artists specialize in silver and pottery work. You’ll see the engraving process close up in the workshops of the village. After lunch onboard, we’ll take a ride through the middle of magnificent rice fields and lotus fields in tuk tuks on our way to the village of Kampong Tralach and the Wat Kampong Tralach Leu pagoda, dating back to the 19th century.

We’ll visit Oknha Tey, one of the largest fishing ports on Tonlé Sap Lake. Fish farming is abundant here. The region is also known for its traditional pottery, which combines ancient knowledge with modern techniques. The word Chnang means ‘pot’ in Khmer. We’ll take a water tour where local people live a traditional life on stilted houses standing over the river. We’ll explore the busy action along the Tonlé Sap river, ending our day with a visit to a small village known for its pottery and palm sugar.

This morning we’ll tour Angkor Ban, a village where people still live in their traditional wooden abodes and keep their old cultural traditions alive. Hundreds of wooden houses stand on stilts among the hustle and bustle of the daily agricultural life of the locals. Next we sail for Kampong Cham, where we’ll visit Wat Nokor, the most treasured monument in the ancient complex of Banteay Prey Nokor. Fusing the Old-World with the “new,” this centuries-old temple now boasts a contemporary pagoda within its walls.

This morning we’ll disembark from our beautiful home on the Mekong, the Ama Maya, in Kampong Cham and transfer by coach to Siem Reap, the gateway to the Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former capital of the Khmer Empire. Along the way, we’ll visit the enchanting Ta Prohm, described as the “Kingdom of the Trees” where ancient temple walls and towering stone galleries have been dramatically reclaimed by nature, making for an unforgettable sight in the Angkor complex.
This morning we’ll explore the temple complex of Angkor Wat, the most iconic of all Angkorian temples and one of the world’s most extraordinary architectural wonders. Built by King Suryavarman II in the 12th Century to honor the Hindu god Vishnu, Angkor Wat is renowned for its soaring towers, intricate bas-reliefs and vast galleries depicting scenes from Hindu mythology and Khmer history. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the crown jewel of Angkorian art, Banteay Srei, meaning “Citadel of Women”.

After breakfast, we’ll have a guided tour of Angkor Thom... “The Great City” and the last capital of the Khmer Empire. Angkor Thom is the largest of all the Angkor complexes and home to Bayon Temple, best known for its gigantic smiling stone faces, as well as the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. Later today, we’ll check out of our Siem Reap resort and head for home... or extend your trip with us to Bangkok where we’ll have one more OUTbound adventure together!
