Rome Transfer & Tours

Who wouldn’t want to spend a few extra days in Rome exploring the Eternal City? For those OUTbounders who want to extend their vacation for a few more days, we got you. We’ll transfer from our ship docked in Civitavecchia to our host hotel, the UNA Decò Roma. Once settled in, choose to start exploring on your own or join one of our unique LGBTQ+ tours, lead by a local gay guide who will give you all of the history you’d expect from an expert guide, but with an emphasis on how our rainbow community was part of ancient Rome and influenced all that followed.

02 - Tours
Optional LGBTQ+ Tours

On Sunday, Monday and Tuesday you can start exploring with our OUTbound optional tours of Rome. OUTbound has partnered with a local LGBTQ+ tour agency to design a different kind of Roman holiday for our community, offering a uniquely rainbow experience in Italy. Thanks to our LGBTQ+ tour experts and their knowledge of Rome, our OUTbounders will get a personal, up close tour of some of Rome’s best-known sights. Start exploring all the things you want to see on a standard tour, but with an emphasis its LGBTQ+ history just for us!

03 - Departure
Wednesday or Thursday Departure

This morning we say “Arrivederci” to the city of Rome and our fantastic OUTbound Mediterranean Riviera Cruise. Wednesday we’ll check out of our host hotel and bid farewell to the Eternal City... or take an extra day to yourself and leave on Thursday. Either option is available! Take one last stroll through the busy streets in the heart of Rome, perfect for relaxing and people watching. As you know, OUTbounders never say “goodbye”, we only say “Until we see you again!”

GAY ROME

Rome’s main ‘gay street’, Via di San Giovanni in Laterano, is just steps away from the Colosseum, with a few bars and more gay venues in the neighborhood. This area around the Colosseum has been a meeting point for the gay community since the 1960s and in 2007 it un-officially was given the name ‘Gay Street’. There are a few gay bars that line this street as well as gay friendly shops and cafes. You’ll find a friendly and welcoming gay scene in Rome, although it’s smaller and more discrete than you might expect. There are more clubs and late-night events than the ‘typical’ gay bars.

Like with most of Europe, the gay scene in Rome tends to pick up later at night. Gay Rome is one of those cities that everyone dreams of visiting. The Eternal City is a vibrant mix of ruins, art, history, street life, and culture… an exhilarating experience that thrills, inspired and never, ever disappoints. Rome is one of those cities that has a place on nearly every traveler’s bucket list. Few cities in the world mesh modern with historical in the way that Rome can. It’s a major metropolitan city, and with that comes a huge population of LGBTQ+ residents. Italy as a whole is considered to be gay friendly with an increasingly liberal attitude from the public. We promise you’ll enjoy your time in Rome, whether this will be your first visit or one of many return trips. There’s no place like Rome!
