Setting sail in 2027, the brand new Emerald Lumi is specially designed to traverse the Seine River in style with tasteful and modern décor visible throughout the ship. The Reflections Restaurant on the Vista Deck is the center of our dining experience, where oversize windows offer excellent views of the passing French landscapes. For a more intimate experience, head to the contemporary Horizon Bar & Lounge, where our OUTbound entertainment will be enjoyed by all.

Welcome to Gay Paree, one of the most beautiful cities in the world that is somehow even more vibrant during the holiday season. After comfortably settling into your cabins, take some time to explore this fantastic city on your own, or just unwind with a cocktail and get to know your follow OUTbounders up in the lounge. Later, we’ll introduce our crew at a welcome reception before sitting down for our first dinner onboard. Tonight we’ll take a cruise on the Seine around the City of Lights as Paris comes alive after dark. We’ll sail overnight towards our first festive stop.
Today is a celebration of northern France’s natural beauty as you immerse yourself in the very landscapes that inspired Impressionist master Claude Monet. Vernon is a charming town with cobblestone streets reminiscent of the Middle Ages. The town was founded by the Viking Rollo in the 9th century, where an island in the Seine made for easy crossings. Ruins of its old medieval bridge still linger on the Seine’s right bank. The remains of La Château des Tourelles are the last surviving witness to that era. This evening, we’ll arrive in Rouen for an overnight stay.
This morning we’ll indulge in leisurely cruising along the Seine. We’ll spend the afternoon in the medieval city of Rouen, preeminent capital of Normandy. Here you’ll explore the Old Town, where you see the spectacular Gothic Notre Dame Cathedral, often painted by Claude Monet, and the famous Gros Horloge, a 16th-century astronomical clock. As you walk among the half-timbered storybook buildings, you’ll be transported back through time, seeing the 14th-century courthouse where Joan of Arc was sentenced to death and the nearby Market Square where she was martyred.
This morning, choose to explore one of the most historically significant spots on earth, the Normandy Beaches. Ponder the courage of the Allied troops who changed the course of World War II during a visit to the Caen Memorial Museum, where you will learn about the invasion of Normandy and the events that led to the liberation of Europe. After, follow the coast to the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer. Located high on a cliff over Omaha Beach, it is the final resting place of nearly 9,400 American service personnel.
Today we’re visiting Honfleur, the cradle of Impressionism, located at the mouth of the Seine as it flows into the English Channel. Untouched by the passage of time, this small port has kept the landmarks of its rich past, making it today one of the most visited towns in France. You’ll marvel at the rows of narrow houses squeezed against each other. Honfleur is home to Saint Catherine’s Church, the largest wooden church in France. It was listed as a historical monument in 1879 and has been the subject of scrupulous research by many archaeologists and historians.
Les Andelys is best known for its imposing castle overlooking the city, the Château Gaillard. Built in 1196 by Richard the Lionheart, the castle and the village’s strategic location bolstered the importance of Les Andelys throughout the Middle Ages. The town also gained notice for its Sainte Clotilde Miraculous Spring, where the wife of the first Frankish king, Clovis, turned well water into wine to serve the builders of her Benedictine monastery. Europe’s devout, upon hearing of the act, flocked here on pilgrimages until the end of the 19th century.
The picturesque village of La Roche-Guyon lies within the verdant Vexin Français Regional Nature Park, bound between the meandering Seine River and a striking wall of white chalk. This idyllic setting is home to the beguiling 12th-century Château de La Roche-Guyon, the village’s most famous landmark that captured the attention of poet Victor Hugo, impressionist Claude Monet and composer Joseph Kosma, among many others. The castle and its breathtaking surroundings still mesmerize all who visit it.
As one of our favorite cities in the world, we can never get enough of Paris! So today we’ll treat ourselves to another day exploring this incredible city. The capitol of France, the city's artistic and intellectual legacy is on full display for the holiday season. Always known as a global center for art, fashion, gastronomy and culture, Paris’s 19th-century cityscape is crisscrossed by wide boulevards and the River Seine. Beyond such landmarks as the Eiffel Tower, the city is known for its café culture and designer boutiques along the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.

Welcome aboard! Today we’ll start our festive French Christmas Markets Cruise in Paris along the famous Seine River. After boarding our ship and settling in to your cabins, we’ll mix and mingle and get to know you and your fellow OUTbounders up in the lounge over drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Later we’ll introduce our crew before sitting down to our first dinner together onboard. Our ship will sail later this evening, giving our OUTbounders a spectacular experience cruising through the City of Lights!
Today, we’ll visit Giverny, a picturesque village near Vernon on the banks of the Seine, where celebrated impressionist artist, Claude Monet, lived for over forty years. Experience an early morning tour of Giverny Gardens and Monet’s former home until his death in 1926. Explore the beautifully preserved house, walking through the rooms where he lived and worked and the restored, elaborate gardens, which inspired some of his most iconic works. After, enjoy some time in Vernon’s charming Christmas markets, taking in the festive atmosphere of this quaint French town.
Today we’ll take a walking tour through the historic center of Rouen and its famous cathedral. Stretched along the Seine, Rouen is Normandy’s cultural, historical, and gastronomical capital. The exceptionally complex Notre-Dame Cathedral is renowned for the juxtaposition of all the Gothic periods... especially on the facade, which Monet painted time and again, reflecting its glory in different lights. We’ll then head to the market place where Joan of Arc was burned alive for heresy in 1431. Finally, we’ll visit the Gros-Horloge, or Great Clock... one of the most emblematic monuments in the city.
The success of ‘D-Day’ was a turning point in World War II, opening a crucial Western front. Normandy’s role in this extraordinary military operation makes it one of the most important regions in World War II history. Today, you’ll join a remarkable tour, focused on this highly significant event. Visit the key sites of the landings by the Allied forces and experience first-hand the Normandy beaches as well as the memorials and museum which honor the bravery of those involved and their ultimate sacrifice.
Today we will explore Honfleur. We’ll begin our tour at the Vieux Bassin before seeing Saint Catherine’s Church, the largest wooden church in France. We’ll then head for the original 17th century Salt Halls (Greniers à Sel), now used for exhibitions, conferences and concerts. Our tour will finish with a visit to Saint Léonard Church. Destroyed during the Hundred Years War, it was rebuilt at the end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th centuries, only to be partially burned down again during the Wars of Religion. We’ll return to our ship on foot.
In the afternoon, discover the heart of Normandy’s countryside with a visit to a traditional cider farm. On this tour you’ll learn how the region’s crisp, refreshing cider is crafted from locally-grown apples using age-old methods. Afterwards, enjoy a tasting of authentic local products that celebrate the renowned flavors of Normandy. We’ll finish our day with some free time in the local Christmas markets, taking in the festive sights, sounds and smells of this charming French town.
This morning we’ll take a short walk to Château de La Roche-Guyon, a beautifully preserved estate steeped in centuries of history. Château de La Roche-Guyon served as a strategic stronghold during the Anglo-French Hundred Years’ War and evolved as a favorite country retreat for Normandy’s nobility. Wander along tranquil pathways through the meticulously maintained gardens. Within the Château, discover elegant period rooms adorned with antique furnishings and artwork, offering a rare glimpse into the refined lifestyle of past centuries.
It’s our final day together in Gay Paree, so make the most of it! The center of gay Paris is the Marais, an old district in the 4th Arrondissement of Paris with lovely, narrow streets breathing centuries-old history. A good deal of gay bars, cafés and shops here, as well as plenty of eateries. The Marais is right in the heart of Paris where you’ll find plenty of activities and things to do, walking distance to some of Paris’ best museums and culture. The close-knit community of the Marais makes it a lively and happening place to explore both at night and during the day.

The tastefully decorated Horizon Lounge, located at the front of the ship, was named for the superb views of the passing coastlines that guests will enjoy courtesy of the oversized windows. Intimate seating areas are peppered throughout the open floor plan, allowing you the choice of going all in with the group or enjoying a little private time between you and a smaller gathering of friends. The lounge also has a self-service beverage station with a machine that dispenses espresso, capuccino, mochaccino, hot chocolate, and hot water for a selection of teas... an OUTbounder favorite!

Enjoy a cocktail at the Horizon bar with us while watching a spectacular sunset together. Located within the Horizon Lounge, you’ll find originality and innovation, with a new twist on the ol’ purveyors of gin and tonics and buckets of beer. This is the place where you’ll spend an enjoyable evening nursing a cocktail with great friends, old and new! Whether you’re in the mood for a mixed drink or glass of wine, we invite you to join us and enjoy one of best bars on the river with your fellow OUTbounders. Order your favorite festive holiday cocktail you’ll savor after a long day exploring the Christmas markets.

Your warm welcome onboard begins in the main reception area, the heart of our ship and main point of information while you are sailing. Here, your friendly crew will be happy to help you get the most from your time with us, whether before leaving for the day’s excursions or arranging for any special requests you may have. With tasteful and modern décor, the three-tiered atrium in the center of the reception area allows natural light to pour in and illuminate the interior.

Get set for a gastronomic adventure in Reflections Restaurant, your go-to dining area for sumptuous local dishes expertly prepared by skilled chefs. Spacious and contemporary, with flexible seating options, this is your space to discover the local tastes of the season. Located on the Vista Deck, the restaurant comfortably seats all our OUTbounders at tables which vary in size with a panoramic view. The atmosphere is casual but elegant. The selection and presentation of the food is outstanding, and you’ll find the quality of service is unmatched.

An idyllic spot for breakfast and light lunches, the Terrace Café is a unique indoor/outdoor dining area located just forward of the Horizon Lounge. With a commanding position at the very front of the ship, inspiring views are guaranteed. This open-air bow seating and eating area has electric doors that make it easy to carry a drink or meal outside for a unique snack experience... snacks that are available throughout the day near the ship’s lounge at the end of the bar.

If you stick to a daily fitness regime at home, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t keep it up on your holiday. The onboard gym has everything you need to work up a sweat on your travels, so you can justify one more delightful dish or extravagant cocktail. The gym has a workout bike, free weights and a treadmill. If the fitness center isn’t where you want to be, then take advantage of the ship’s track. The jogging track encircles the perimeter of the Sun Deck, so you can kill two birds with one stone... exercise and enjoy the view.

Your space for relaxation and rejuvenation, the onboard Wellness Area provides everything from facial treatments to massages, delivered by a trained beauty therapist. Downstairs on Riviera Deck is the hairdresser, where you can get haircuts, head and neck massages, and other services. Be sure to book quickly at the front desk when you embark because availability is limited.

Some nights, the pool at the back of our ship is converted into a cinema. The transformation happens when the pool floor rises to deck level. After the floor has been mopped dry, crew members set up chairs and lower a large movie screen. Popcorn is available, and you can order drinks from the bar or grab a specialty coffee or tea from the self-service machine.

The indoor pool is located aft on Horizon Deck. It’s surrounded by a glass-walled lounge area with chairs, tables, dressing rooms, and a bar with a self-service machine for coffee drinks and tea. The heated pool, complete with a retractable roof, is the perfect way to spend an afternoon or evening, soaking with friends while watching the incredible scenery of the Danube drift by.

The Sun Deck is much more than the place to savor a hot chocolate or specialty coffee. It’s also the perfect way to spend your afternoon enjoying a panoramic view of the magnificent rolling landscapes. The Sun Deck has a gorgeous outdoor living area and a huge canopy midship, perfect for OUTbounders who prefer a little cover as we sail along the river. Whether golf’s your game or you prefer a game of tic-tac-toe, lazy afternoons on the river are never boring with the games area and putting green.

Are You Ready for the Christmas Markets of France?
Let’s get started!
Flight Ideas
Since our trip begins and ends in Paris, flights are super easy. Simply log onto your favorite airline’s website and look for roundtrip tickets to either of Paris’s major airports… either Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), the primary international airport or Orly Airport (ORY), the smaller regional airport.
And of course the standard disclaimer, you are always welcome to book any flight or airline you wish and OUTbound does not guarantee or endorse any airline or flight.
Getting to the Ship
Our ship will be docked along the Seine River in Paris near the Javel bas Amont.
Paris Dock Address: Port de Javel Bas, 75015, Paris France
Boarding
Boarding officially begins at 3:00pm local time on Saturday, December 4th, but you are free to arrive at our ship at any time after 1:00pm. In the event your stateroom is not ready prior to 3:00pm, feel free to drop your bags at the reception desk, grab a drink from the bar and relax in the Panoramic Lounge or head up top to the Sun Deck to recover from your long travel day!
Theme Nights & Parties
Nothing makes an OUTbound event more fun than our THEME NIGHTS! This is your chance to express yourself with a fun t-shirt, wild wig or full blown costume. Feel free to show us what you got! As always with OUTbound, you are welcome to participate as much or as little as you like, it’s up to you!
Be sure to check back as we get a little closer to our sail date to see the full list of our Theme Nights! We’ll announce these about three months before we sail… plenty of time to plan and get creative!
Upgrade Your Drink Package
As with every OUTbound trip, all of the standard beers, wines, mixed drinks, specialty coffees, sodas and bottled waters are included in the price of your trip. However, Emerald does offer an Enhanced Beverage Package for those of you looking for something special.
To download the full drink list, including what is included with your cruise and what the Enhanced Package offers, click… HERE.
The Enhanced Beverage Package can be added to your reservation for $105 per person, either before we sail or once you are onboard.
Take A Picture!
Before heading out on a big trip, most travelers focus on packing the right clothes, confirming reservations, and making sure your passports are in hand. But seasoned OUTbounders know there’s another small step that can make a big difference in a pinch… snapping a few key photos before you leave home.
These quick snapshots take less than two minutes to capture but can save hours of stress if luggage gets lost, travel apps glitch, or important documents go missing.
Passport
A clear photo of the main passport page can make it faster to get a replacement at an embassy or consulate if your passport is lost. It’s best to keep this image in a secure, password-protected file or cloud app.
Prescription Medications & Labels
OUTbounders who take medication should take a picture of both your pills and the prescription labels. If your medications get lost or you run out, having the generic drug name on hand can make it much easier to refill while traveling.
Boarding Pass & Travel Documents
Travel apps sometimes glitch, and wifi isn’t always reliable at the airport. A screenshot of your boarding pass ensures it’s available offline when needed. The same goes for any hotel confirmations, train tickets, or tour reservations booked outside of your OUTbound trip.
Luggage Contents
Snapping a photo of everything packed in your suitcase before zipping it shut can be invaluable if your bags are delayed or lost. Airlines and insurance companies often ask for detailed lists of contents when processing a claim. A quick image can serve as proof of what was inside your bags and speed up any claims you might need to make.
As we all know, travel can be unpredictable, but your smartphone camera (something that’s already in your pocket and doesn’t require any extra cost) offers one of the easiest safeguards. Taking a few extra photos before you depart is a small habit that can prevent big headaches… and help you stay calm when plans don’t go exactly as expected.
Tipping Our Hosts
Tipping is the ONLY thing not included with your OUTbound vacation. We never want to dictate anyone’s generosity or decide how much you think YOUR experience with a crew member, waitstaff or tour guide was worth. How much to tip depends on the type of service you receive and your personal experience.
During our trip together, you’ll come into contact with many different servers and hosts. At the end of each day’s guided tour, you’ll have the chance to tip our guide and driver whatever you feel your experience was worth.
Onboard our ship, you’ll receive an envelope in your stateroom on the last night of our cruise before disembarking the next morning in Paris and heading home. It’s here where you will have the opportunity to leave a tip that will be split among the crew… waitstaff, bartenders, room stewards and the entertainment staff.
A general rule of thumb for tipping the ship’s staff is €10 per day, per person.
However, if your experience warrants something more, then by all means feel free to be as generous as you would like. If you feel that any individual in particular has gone above and beyond in making your experience something extra special, then we encourage you to reach out to them directly and let them know how much you appreciated their service during our time together.
What Money Should You Bring?
France
France is a member of the European Union and one of the countries that use the Euro (abbreviated €) as their national currency.
You can also use your credit or debit card as well throughout our trip, as credit cards are widely accepted everywhere in each of the countries we will visit. However, remember that there will be additional bank charges upon usage and even a foreign transaction fee in some cases, depending on your bank.
Will I need a Visa to enter France?
American, Canadian and Australian citizens who are planning to visit France with us in 2027 will most likely need to apply for the European Union’s new ETIAS. ETIAS is not a visa but a new mandatory entry requirement.
Scheduled to start sometime in 2026, the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) will require travelers from once visa-exempt countries, including United States citizens, to apply for a ETIAS and pay a small fee.
What is an ETIAS?
To streamline the entry process and enhance security, the European Union will be introducing the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). This system aims to simplify the process for travelers from visa-exempt countries, including the United States, by requiring them to obtain an ETIAS authorization before visiting any of the Schengen Area countries.
For all of the latest ETIAS information, visit the official European Union Travel website HERE.
EU Entry and Exit System (EES)
As of October 12, 2025, US citizens will need to go through the EU’s new Entry and Exit System when traveling to 29 European countries. This applies to any visits lasting up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
Your fingerprints, facial image, passport details, and entry and exit dates will be collected upon entry to an EES country and stored digitally. You do not need to pay a fee to enter the Schengen Area or the EU. The new system will be introduced gradually, and no advanced action is required.
There is no online application, advanced registration, or fee required for the new EU Entry/Exit System (EES). It is a biometric border control system that replaces traditional passport stamping. You will complete your EES registration in-person at a self-service kiosk or border desk the first time you enter a Schengen Area country.
Travel to Europe Mobile App (EES)
The Travel to Europe mobile application is now available, allowing pre-registration of travel information prior to arrival in France. The app allows non-EU travelers to pre-register their passport data for the Entry/Exit System (EES) before reaching a border crossing point.
Non-EU nationals can use the app to pre-register their data up to 72 hours prior to entering or leaving a European country.
The app is voluntary and does not replace border checks but makes border crossing more efficient. Use of the application is optional and free of charge, and it is available on the App Store and Google Play. You can get more information about the EES Mobile App by clicking HERE.
What Power Converters Will I Need?
Our ship, the Emerald Lumi, has two (2) EU 220v Type C outlets and two (2) US 110v Standard outlets in each stateroom. Feel free to bring a USB adapter with multiple outlets so that you can charge several of your devices at once.
If you are arriving early in Paris, you’ll need a Type C adapter for use at your hotel as it will have the same receptacles as standard EU power outlets.
The Type C is the plug which has two round pins, like this…
You can find a ton of options on Amazon or other retailers that will include USB ports for charging your phone, tablet and other devices all at the same time.
Keep in mind that the United Kingdom (UK) uses different power outlets than the EU, so the Type C adapter will not work if you are visiting England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland during your trip.
Travel Insurance
If we’ve learned anything over these last couple of years, it’s that the world can be an uncertain place at times. While you’re never required to buy travel insurance, it’s a good idea and we recommend all OUTbounders consider protecting your hard-earned vacation money. The price of your coverage will depend on a few factors, including the cost of the trip, what state you live in, how long before the trip departs, and if you have any pre-existing or underlying health conditions, to name a few.
Some reasons why you might buy travel insurance include:
- Cancel for Any Reason
- Unexpected Work Requirements
- Personal or Family Illness
OUTbound does not provide travel insurance. However, we always recommend using a third-party insurance carrier to provide your coverage.
