01 - Arrival
Cocktail Party & Arrival Dinner

Welcome to Cape Town! We’ll start our time in this world famous city by checking into our host hotel, the Cape Grace, located on a private quay in the V&A Waterfront and just steps away from the area’s retail haven. After settling into your luxury rooms, come mingle with your hosts and fellow OUTbounders for a welcome cocktail party and family dinner before heading out into this amazing city. We’re staying just minutes from Cape Town’s LGBTQ+ district of De Waterkant, so come and go as you please. Enjoy all that Cape Town has to offer however you want!

02 - Table Mountain
Table Mountain

An icon of Cape Town, today we’re headed to the top of Table Mountain to enjoy panoramic views from the top. One of the new 7 Wonders of Nature, no visit to the mother city is complete without standing atop this incredible rock. Table Mountain is a flat-top mountain that overlooks Cape Town. It stretches 3,500 feet above sea level, giving those who reach the top a view of the surrounding cities and the Atlantic Ocean. Hiking up can take up to 2.5 hours, or if you don’t want to hike, the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway takes you right to the top in minutes, without all the huffing and puffing.

03 - Penguins
Cape Point & Boulders Beach

Today we’re off to see the world famous African Penguins. Visiting the quirky penguins at Boulders Beach, between Simon’s Town and Cape Point, is a unique experience. The colony, which lives in the middle of a residential area, is one of the few sites where African penguins can be observed at close range, as they wander freely in a protected natural environment. We’ll stop along the way to see the colorful beach houses of Muizenberg beach. Bright, vibrant and very photogenic, the Muizenberg beach huts are the perfect backdrop for your social media posts!

04 - Wine Tasting
Wine Tasting

South Africa has amazing wines, and we’ll be sampling some of Cape Town’s best on today’s tour. The wine regions of Paarl, Franschhoek, and Stellenbosch produce some of the finest wines in the Cape Winelands, surrounded by lush mountains and rolling vineyards. On this tour, you’ll enjoy a comprehensive introduction to South African wine as you visit four different wineries, sample a wide variety of red and white wines, including port brandy and sparkling wine, stop at a local restaurant for lunch and taste regional specialties including cheese and chocolates.

05 - Departure
Final Day in Cape Town

Today we’ll spend our last morning together at the beautiful Cape Grace. We’ll all check out of the hotel after breakfast and head to the airport and our flight to Johannesburg. For those of you on the first safari cruise (departing September 26), it’s time to head for home after our trip-of-a-lifetime. For those of you traveling on the second safari cruise (departing October 8), your adventure is just beginning! For all of us, our time in Cape Town may be over, but our memories of this incredible experience with our fellow OUTbounders will last forever.

NEXT DAY

Gorgeous beaches, a vibrant LGBTQ+ community, and fantastic food… there is much to love about Cape Town, and plenty of reasons why it is frequently lauded as the gay capital of Africa! Cape Town is famous for welcoming LGBTQ+ tourists with a warm cozy hug, and why it’s rated as one of the most gay friendly places in the world. The South African government legalized marriage equality in 2006, becoming the first African country to do so.

We’ll be staying close to the De Waterkant district, a hotspot for gay travelers. It’s a vibrant neighborhood, with lots of shops and restaurants displaying the rainbow flag in their windows… wandering around feels like exploring a rainbow paradise. De Waterkant is also considered one of Cape Town’s trendiest districts, full of historic buildings, boutique shops, and highly rated restaurants. By day it has the buzz of a small village. By night it becomes the beating pulse of the city’s LGBTQ community.

Gay Cape Town

A fusion of cultures, gastronomies, and majestic landscapes, there is no place on Earth quite as glorious and charismatic as Cape Town. It also happens to be the fabulous Gay Capital of Africa! Cape Town is known to locals as the mother city, and it’s frequently added to the list of must-visit places around the world. Flanked by the impressive Table Mountain, which the city curves around while hugging the coast, it’s an incredibly diverse city and an impressively gay-friendly destination. Cape Town is renown the world over for its luxurious hotels, vineyards, gorgeous coastline, hiking, and cosmopolitan nightlife. As incredible as it sounds, South Africa’s constitution was the first in the world to protect people from discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, and the country was the first in Africa to legalize same-sex marriage.

During our time in Cape Town, we’ll explore the LGBTQ+ district of De Waterkant, enjoy panoramic views from the top of Table Mountain (one of the new 7 Wonders of Nature), and visit Cape Point, a famous landmark in Cape Town where you’ll witness spans of beautiful landscapes and see the African penguins at Boulders beach.
